Dioctyl phthalate is a colorless or light yellow transparent liquid with special smell, insoluble in water and soluble in organic solvent. It is prepared by esterification of phthalic anhydride and 2-ethylhexyl alcohol. It is one of the most widely used plasticizers in plastic processing.
